SCOTT Arfield's Burnley career is set to come to an end this summer as he nears a move back to Scotland to join Rangers.

The 29-year-old can sign a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of England as his contract expires in the summer and it is understood talks with the Glasgow giants are at an advanced stage.

Arfield is currently absent with a calf injury and may have already played his last game for the Clarets after five years at Turf Moor.

In January boss Sean Dyche spoke of his desire to keep Arfield, a free transfer signing from Huddersfield, at the club and said he was 'sat tight' on the offer of a new contract.

But the chances of him staying at Turf Moor have diminished since then and Arfield, a former Falkirk player, looks set to secure a move back to Scotland after 193 appearances for the Clarets.

Arfield will not be the only senior player to depart Burnley in the summer, with Dean Marney also set to leave when his contract expires.

The fans favourites has met with Nottingham Forest boss Aitor Karanka over a possible free transfer move to the City Ground.
