MATCH of the Day pundit Danny Murphy believes Sean Dyche would be in the running for the manager of the year award, but for Manchester City's runaway success.

Dyche has guided Burnley to seventh in the Premier League with seven games to go and the Clarets have already brought up 46 points for the campaign, leaving them in a battle for European qualification.

As Murphy and fellow pundit Alan Shearer discusses Burnley's latest win, a 2-1 success at West Brom, the former praised the job Dyche has done at Turf Moor.

"It's only because of the brilliance of City that he won't (win manager of the year)," Murphy said.

"But recruitment, motivation of players year in year out. He's done a fantastic job and deserves all the credit he gets."

Meanwhile Shearer was full of praise for Ashley Barnes as the striker's stunning volley got the ball rolling for Burnley at the Hawthorns.

Barnes had said he was going to watch the goal on repeat, and Shearer said: "He said he was going to watch it a few times and so he should, and then a few more after that. It's well worth watching, it was superb.

"The technique was just incredible, it's a really difficult thing to do, he's off the floor, to get it on target is one thing but to get it into the top corner, the keeper has got absolutely no chance.

"When you're a centre forward and you see the look on the goalkeeper's face when he realises he's got no chance of getting it.

"It's great skill, what a volley and what a goal."
