BURNLEY made it back-to-back Premier League wins as Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood fired the Clarets to a fine win at a toxic London Stadium.

After a quiet first half the Clarets exploded into life when Wood came on just before the hour, rekindling the partnership with Barnes that saw off Everton a week ago.

Again they were both on the scoresheet but the glut of second half goals sparked angry scenes from the home fans, with some invading the pitch and hundreds more rushing to the directors box to confront West Ham owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

It had been the Hammers who threatened first just before the quarter hour mark, with Joao Mario sliding a ball through to makeshift striker Marko Arnautovic, but Nick Pope kept the Austrian’s angled drive out with his legs.

Mario came close himself shortly after, with a deep corner from Mark Noble finding the Inter Milan loanee unmarked 12 yards out, but he sidefooted a volley over.

It was Pope’s feet that were keeping the Clarets level in the first half. Five minutes before the break Angelo Ogbonna’s clearing header inadvertently sent Manuel Lanzini in on goal, but Pope stuck out his left boot to turn the shot wide.

Burnley had rarely threatened as an attacking unit in the first half but they should have been ahead five minutes after the break. Stephen Ward broke through a challenge to get forward and looked to have timed his through ball to Barnes perfectly, with the striker beating Joe Hart from close range only to be denied by an incorrect offside flag, with replays showing Barnes to be level with Ogbonna.

Wood made his entrance on the hour mark, replacing Jeff Hendrick as Dyche went back to the side that played so impressively in the second half against Everton last week.

The New Zealand striker was involved immediately, facilitating a one-two with Barnes that saw the latter drag a shot wide from 20 yards.

Moments later it was Wood who offered the out ball down the right for Matt Lowton. He held it up as Barnes broke forward before finding a perfect pass for him to crash home a shot from 17 yards, in front of watching Austria boss Franco Foda..

The goal turned the atmosphere in the London Stadium toxic, with three fans invading the pitch to confront West Ham players.

But Burnley were seizing their moment and the lead was doubled within minutes. A move across the box found Aaron Lennon in a good position and although he scuffed a shot Wood was on hand to turn it home from six yards.

That lead to more mutiny, with hundreds of Hammers fans gathering in front of the directors box to protest against their owners, while another pitch invader removed one of the corner flags before being apprehended by stewards.

On the pitch the Clarets were beginning to enjoy themselves and they had a third when Joe Hart, utterly outclassed by Nick Pope in the goalkeeping battle, spilt Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s shot and Wood reacted quickest to tap home.
