THE last two Premier League sides to not be awarded a penalty this season meet at the Liberty Stadium with Sean Dyche wondering how Burnley haven't been given a spot-kick all season.

The Clarets' last Premier League penalty was against Everton at Goodison Park on April 15, 2017, when Sam Vokes scored from 12 yards.

Since then Burnley have gone 31 games without being awarded a penalty, although they have had at least two fairly obvious decisions go against them recently, when Jeff Hendrick was fouled by Jonas Lossl at Huddersfield in December and Jack Cork was impeded by Paul Dummett at Newcastle just a week-and-a-half ago.

Swansea's run goes back even longer, with their last penalty coming in a 3-0 win over Sunderland on December 10, 2016.

Asked if he felt his side was a due a penalty, Dyche said: "It would be nice. But you can’t guarantee it.

"I’m not crying it in much. Only statistically, I’ve cried it in. We’ve had a couple of obvious ones, we all know that, that haven’t been given.

"But it’s very unusual. You’re not looking to rely on that stat. But it’s quite improbable in the modern game, with the amount of penalties where you think: Really? Is that a penalty? So to not have one in that scenario, that is unusual."

Dyche said he hadn't asked referees for an explanation on why his team haven't been awarded a penalty, adding: "You can overthink it, you can ask a million questions, but there’s no point. What’s done is done."

The Clarets would take a repeat of the penalty awarded their way at Swansea last season when Sam Vokes handled the ball only for Burnley get the decision, although Dyche is adamant they should have had more penalties last term as well.

"I know last year we had as many as six not given. Definitely, because l had them checked by people," he said.

"This season, the one everyone screams about was Huddersfield, which was nigh on impossible that it wasn’t a penalty. But it wasn’t given.

"I don’t know about VAR. That’s another conversation. I agree with it, but I think it needs some streamlining and it will take a bit of time. But it will probably iron out some of these penalty decisions.

"Corky’s at Newcastle was blatant. I was very surprised that we didn’t get that, and yet I did see some people say: No, it wasn’t a penalty. And I thought: Well, I don’t know what is then. I was a defender, and I can see that he’s had the old panic, when you slip. Whatever that is, he’s tripped him over. There are two, so we can all agree that we should have had at least two. And big important ones by the way, because if you think about it, they were tight games."
