JACK Cork is proving to be the headmaster of Burnley, and he knows exactly where he gets it from.

“I think I’ve got that gene from my dad!” said Cork of his father Alan, the former Sheffield United and Wimbledon forward.

“All his goals were headers. He loves it when I score with my head!”

On that note Cork senior has had even more reason to be cheerful, with both of his son’s goals for Burnley this season scored with his head.

His latest came against his old club, Swansea, and set the tone for a 2-0 win for the Clarets at Turf Moor.

Of scoring against his former employers Cork added: “Things always work out like that in football, it’s strange, but it was a good week for me. It’s hard going in and seeing some of my friends and old teammates being down after the game.

“But for us it’s the perfect start, we’re keeping the momentum going and hopefully we can being positive and get results.

“I sort of nicked it and took a touch inside, I saw Barnesy (Ashley Barnes) making a run outside and he played it outside to Rob (Brady) so I thought I’d make a run between the two centre halves. Rob did exactly the same thing for me against Blackburn, it had all the pace on it and I just had to nod it in.”

It capped a memorable week for Cork on the back of making his England debut as a late substitute for Gareth Southgate’s side against Germany.

And the possibility of more Clarets caps cannot be ruled out with an English led backline, and six clean sheets in the last nine games, which have provided the basis for a run of three straight Premier League wins.

“It’s a great record,” added Cork. “The defence is working hard, we’re really organised, we work on it in training and it’s an unbelievable record for a British back four, with four English boys including the goalkeeper, so for us to have that record is a great achievement for all of them

“The (England) manager has said he will pick players on form and there’s probably no better team of English players in the Premier League than here - the back four, the goalkeeper - there are some good English players here.”

Of the Burnley team as a whole, Cork added: “We’re developing, we’re proving everyone wrong still and pushing up the table.

“In the first half (against Swansea) I thought we were excellent, we didn’t give them anything.”
