JACK Cork is targetting bringing up 30 points before the turn of the year as Burnley look to build on their encouraging start to the season.

The Clarets sit seventh in the Premier League having taken 19 points from 11 games so far and they welcome Cork's former club Swansea City to Turf Moor on Saturday (3pm).

While the talk around the Clarets remains of focusing on that 40 point target, the club's latest England international is looking to hit 30 before the start of 2018, which would mean collecting 11 points from the next 10 games.

"That (40 points) was our main target at the start of the season and I'm sure it was the target of a lot of other Premier League clubs to get to that mark," Cork said.

"Personally, I think if we can get anywhere near 30 before the end of the year would be a massive achievement for us and it gives us a little bit less work to do for the second half of the season. That would be a good goal for us now, setting a mini goal of 30 points and seeing where we can go from there."

For the second game in a row Cork is facing a former club and he's surprised to see the Swans languishing down in 19th this season.

"We had the last one against Southampton and we managed to get a win there," the 28-year-old said.

"I'm looking forward to playing against them - I know a lot of the players there. The last three seasons have been disappointing starts for them, they've been quite tough, but you can't write a team like that off.

"They've got world class players, players that play for their countries, a lot of caps and a lot of Premier League experience and we need to be ready for that challenge. We need to work hard and get the goal like we have been doing this season."

Cork's form this season earned him his England call-up and he is keen to repay that faith shown in him by Sean Dyche, admitting he isn't surprised at seeing the manager linked with other clubs.

"There aren't many English managers with a CV like his in the game at the minute," he said.

"He's done a great job, not many managers get chance to prove themselves after going down but he's done all that and more. He's got two promotions to his name and last season in keeping the team up was a great achievement as well.

"I would like him to stay. He's shown faith in me bringing me here and I would like to repay that."
