SEAN Dyche is pleased with how his side are shaping up after Burnley maintained their perfect pre-season record with a win at Preston.

Jon Walters and Sam Vokes struck in either half to help the Clarets to a 2-1 win at Deepdale, adding to wins over Shamrock Rovers, Alfreton Town and Kidderminster Harriers.

Dyche thinks there's more to come from his side, with friendlies still to take place against Nottingham Forest, Celta Vigo and Hannover, but he was pleased with how they stood up to the test against a North End side who are further down their pre-season plans, with the Championship season starting a week on Saturday.

"We split the teams on Saturday and then brought them together tonight and I was pleased," said Dyche.

"We got a bit misshapen at the end but we made so many changes it was hard to quickly adapt.

"The idea of pre-season is getting players ready and it takes these games, you can’t just flick a switch. These have had six games, we’re on our second real game. There’s still work to go and there’s sharpness to come, so at this stage I’m pleased."

The outfield starters at Deepdale again all lasted at least an hour and Dyche is happy with the shape his side are in.

James Tarkowski missed out with a minor hip injury, but Sam Vokes returned from an ankle problem having missed the double header on Saturday.

And although there were a knocks picked up at Preston Dyche is confident there are no serious issues.

"We got more minutes into them and at this stage that’s what it’s about, keeping injuries to a minimum," he said.

"We’ve got a few knocks but nothing major we don’t think, and making sure they get good minutes in their legs."
