BURNLEY are set to make Charlie Taylor their first signing of the summer, but remain hopeful of doing so without the need for a tribunal.

The 23-year-old left-back's deal with Leeds United expired yesterday and he is now free to join up with a new club ahead of the 2017/18 season, with terms in place for a move to Turf Moor.

But the Whites are due compensation for their academy graduate as he is under the age of 24 and a fee could be set by a tribunal if the two clubs are unable to come to an agreement.

That is a course of action the Clarets are still hoping to avoid and they remain in talks with Leeds over a fee, with the Elland Road outfit confident of getting at least £5million via a tribunal for a player they have developed since he was nine years of age.

Burnley duo George Boyd and Paul Robinson are also out of contract from today.

While winger Boyd, 31, has turned down the offer of a one-year extension with the option of a second year and will leave Turf Moor, goalkeeper Robinson, 37, is still considering the club’s offer of a new deal.

Boyd wanted a two-year deal to remain at the club and is now set to sign for Sheffield Wednesday on those terms, where he will link up with former Turf Moor teammate David Jones.

Meanwhile Michael Keane’s move to Everton is likely to be finalised early next week.

The 24-year-old will move to Goodison Park for an initial fee of £25million, which could rise to £31million with add-ons.

Keane returns from holiday this weekend and will tie up his move once he is back, with the Toffees keen to have their man in in time for pre-season training next week.

The Clarets have not yet returned with a fresh offer for Stoke City striker Jonathan Walters.

Burnley had a bid of an initial six-figure fee, which could have risen towards £3million with add-ons, turned down for the 33-year-old recently.

Walters has a year remaining on his deal in the Potteries but made just 13 starts in the Premier League under Mark Hughes last season.
