GEORGE Boyd is set to leave Burnley when his contract expires next week.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands that Boyd hasn’t been offered an improvement on the one-year deal, with a year’s option, that was presented to him before the end of the campaign and as a result the midfielder now sees his future away from Turf Moor.

The 31-year-old wanted a two-year contract to remain with the Clarets, but is now looking at options elsewhere having already rejected the offer from Burnley.

It is understood that the former Hull City winger has clubs from the Premier League and the top of the Championship interested in his services, with Aston Villa and Derby County previously linked with a move.

Boyd could join a new club from July 1 but while he would be keen to get a deal fixed up in time for the start of pre-season training he will not rush through a deal over the next week.

Boyd was a joint club-record signing when he arrived at Turf Moor on September 1, 2014 for a fee of around £3million.

He scored five goals in his first season with the club in the Premier League, including the winner in the memorable home victory over champions Manchester City.

A season later he played a key role as the Clarets secured an immediate return to the top flight, winning the Championship title in the process, and last season he started 33 of Burnley’s 38 Premier League games, coming off the bench in a further three.

But with Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Robbie Brady arriving last season competition for places has increased out wide and after 123 games with the club Boyd’s time at the club appears to be coming to an end.
