WE haven't yet reached the end of this season and already Burnley are looking at where they can improve to thrive again in the Premier League in 2017/18.

In truth the main area for progress is fairly obvious in the shape of the Clarets' away form.

The contrast between results and performances at Turf Moor to those on the road remain striking, despite the crucial win at Crystal Palace in late April, which made sure Burnley wouldn't become the seventh team in the Premier League era to go through a season without tasting success on the road.

Sean Dyche has insisted throughout the campaign that it doesn't matter where the points come from, as long as enough are collected to secure a second season of Premier League football.

But it is a record that will need to be put right next season, and Iceland winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson lists it as the main priority as Burnley bid to establish themselves as a top flight club.

"We want to get more away points and that’s going to be our aim for next season," the 26-year-old said.

But if we have the same season next season and win our games at home I’m not going to complain about that. But we do want to improve our away form."

Gudmundsson, who has impressed during an injury-hit first campaign with the Clarets, is unable to put his finger on exactly why there has been such a contrast between home and away results this season.

Burnley have racked up 10 league successes at Turf Moor, compared to just the one away, and while the former Charlton Athletic man admits performances on the road were below the standards expected early in the season, he insists they improved without reward until the success at Selhurst Park.

"It is a contrast," he said. "In the beginning we didn’t play well away from home but it came during the season, we had some good performances, but it just didn’t happen for us, so that’s something we need to fix for next season.

"The home form has been tremendous and next season we want try and get the away form better. The Premier League is a tough place to go away but I think we’ve put in decent performances to get more points but it just hasn’t happened."
