CLARETS captain Tom Heaton should have happy memories heading to Merseyside this weekend, although the goalkeeper admits he’d forgotten about his heroics the last time Burnley visited Goodison Park.

That’s probably because his side lost 1-0 that sunny day in April 2015, when Kevin Mirallas’ 29th-minute strike dropped them to the foot of the Premier League.

But the Belgian’s goal came after Heaton had pulled off a terrific save, low down to his right, to keep out Ross Barkley’s penalty.

And the England international will be hoping it’s his team, and not just him, taking the plaudits this time around.

“I wouldn’t have remembered it,” said the Clarets leader when reminded about the spot-kick stop to deny the Toffees the lead in the 10th minute two years ago.

“But it’s one we’re looking forward to and we’ve had a good few weeks. I thought for 65 minutes against Tottenham we were good and when they scored it wasn’t quite the same.

“Last Tuesday night (1-0 win against Stoke) it was a very good result and Saturday (0-0 at Middlesbrough) was a decent performance with an excellent point.

“We’ll go to Goodison Park full of confidence and looking to come away with a result.”

A win against Ronald Koeman’s men, and results elsewhere in the bottom half going their way, would put Burnley on the cusp of securing their top flight status for another season.

Hull and Swansea face tricky away trips, to Stoke and Watford respectively, while bottom side Sunderland host West Ham and Middlesbrough entertain Arsenal on Easter Monday.

But even if all those come out in the Clarets’ favour, and Sean Dyche’s men claim their first away win of the season against the Blues, Heaton is not taking anything for granted.

“There’s still a job to be done,” said the Turf Moor skipper.

“We’re still looking upwards but with the nature of the division you can’t get away from the fact you do glance down to see what the situation is.

“The focus has to remain on one game at a time.

“We’ll go through the (previous) game, see what we could have done better, see what we did well and take that forward building in to Everton.”
