BURNLEY still have plenty of work to do to make sure they’re not involved in a relegation battle at the end of the season, according to Andre Gray.

The Clarets striker insists his side remain in a relegation battle as things stand, despite the point at Hull on Saturday moving them up to 11th in the Premier League table, nine points clear of the bottom three.

The games are running out for the teams below Sean Dyche’s side to make up ground, with just 12 to go between now and the end of the campaign.

But Gray said the Clarets are refusing to look too far ahead of themselves and are instead concentrating on some crucial clashes ahead, with trips to Swansea City and Sunderland, who are both battling the drop, coming up in the next three weeks.

“We know that there’s a lot of work to do, it’s not over yet, we know that we’re still in that relegation battle so we’ve got to keep our heads down, keep working hard and hopefully it’ll go our way,” said Gray.

“We’re nearly in to the last 10 games now so we’ll keep plucking away. The results went for us (on Saturday) as well so we’ll just keep doing what we’re doing and I’m sure we’ll be fine.

“It’s massive (to avoid defeat against rivals). We obviously want to win every game but we just need to stay unbeaten now.

“We’re in a great position and we’re playing all the teams around us so that’s going to be important.”

The next big staging post for Burnley comes in south Wales on Saturday when they travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on a rejuvenated Swansea City outfit.

The Swans have won four of seven games under new boss Paul Clement to move out of the relegation zone and up to 16th in the table, and Gray would take a repeat of Saturday’s point at Hull to maintain Burnley’s seven-point advantage over Swansea.

“It’s massive, especially when we’re playing the teams around us,” he said. “It’s good to keep them out of touching distance.

“It was important not to lose at Hull, try to get the win but if not just don’t lose.”

Gray was pleased with how the Clarets performed at the KCOM Stadium last weekend and he felt they could have taken all three points.

Instead Burnley will head to Swansea still searching for that first away win of the season.

“I think we dominated; we had a lot of chances, maybe lacked a bit of quality but it was a good performance overall,” the 25-year-old said.

“Sometimes that happens, you get those games where it’s just the final pass but it’s something that we’ll work on. We’re all still learning so it’s something that will come.

“The first thing comes down to how we perform and in the first half we went out flying. We should have done a bit better in the final third. I had a chance in the second half and just pulled it wide.

“We were in the game the whole time, they never really got on top of us at any point, apart from a few set-pieces, but it was a great performance.

“We’ve come off the back of a really disappointing week (after losing to Lincoln) and we know that we’re a lot better than that so it was all about us coming out and performing.”
