ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger questioned the integrity of referee Jon Moss and fourth official Anthony Taylor after they awarded a late penalty to Burnley in January’s ill-tempered fixture at the Emirates Stadium, it has been revealed.

The Gunners boss reacted angrily when the Clarets were given a stoppage time penalty for a foul on Ashley Barnes and was subsequently sent off.

Andre Gray scored the spot kick for Burnley but the hosts won the game 2-1 when Alexis Sanchez converted an Arsenal penalty eight minutes into time added on.

Referee Moss, giving his account of Wenger’s actions and comments following the award of the Burnley penalty in a report released by the Football Association, said: “I was informed by Mr Taylor (the fourth official) that he had been confronted by Mr Wenger in the technical area. He informed me that despite being warned to consider his conduct, Mr Wenger stated to Mr Taylor “You are dishonest to your federation!”

This account was supported by the report by fourth official Taylor, who said Wenger refused to leave the tunnel area after being sent off by Moss. Taylor added that he felt Wenger’s comments were “questioning both mine and the referee, Jon Moss’ integrity and impartiality.”

Wenger has since served a four match touchline ban.
