BURNLEY forward Sam Vokes has emphasised the importance of the FA Cup fifth round tie against Lincoln City and insists the squad is well-prepared to prevent an upset, writes SCOTT SUMNER.

The Turf ace is confident the Clarets’ excellent home record will help them into the last eight against a team who sit 81 league places below them in the football pyramid.

But the 27-year-old stressed Burnley will not be complacent when National League leaders visit Turf Moor.

He said: “We’ve been working on them, we’ve had meetings and we’ve been training on the pitch. We’ll treat it like we do any other game, we’ll prepare right and be ready for when it comes.

“It’s a very important game for us. We’re not taking anything away from Lincoln but at home we feel very confident because we’ve had some good results and performances recently.

“It’s a game that we’re looking forward to and we want to keep that run at home going.

“We’ve just got the momentum and it was something that we felt strongly about at the start of the year. We spoke about making Turf Moor our home and we make it tough for other teams.”

Despite being used as a substitute in league matches of late Vokes is a likely starter tomorrow, having played the full 90 minutes in all three of Burnley’s FA Cup games.

And he praised the strength of the Clarets squad.

He added: “You can see the quality. The two new lads came in and did fantastic and the rest of the lads have been playing well so it’s hard to get into the team at the minute but it’s important that we keep fighting.”
