MATT Lowton insists Burnley won't rest on their laurels at any point this season - as boss Sean Dyche simply won't allow it.

The Clarets are 12th in the Premier League after 20 games, with an eight-point cushion on the bottom three as they look to secure survival and a second successive season in the top flight.

Lowton knows the job is far from done at the moment, and insists Dyche will remain on top of the squad this season and never allow them to ease off in the second half of the campaign.

"I think the manager is very good at things like that," said the former Aston Villa right-back.

"He has little saying like the game doesn't owe you one and we take one game at a time.

"It's true, I don't think there will ever be a point when the manager days we've done enough. Even we were safe we would want to push up and the idea then would be to finish as high as we can."

Lowton is likely to return to the squad for the visit of Southampton today (3pm), having been rested for the FA Cup stalemate at Sunderland.

Tendayi Darikwa came in at right-back in one of six changes at the Stadium of Light, and Lowton believes the performance in that goalless draw showed the strength in depth.

"It's a deep squad, we've got lads that are training very well week in and week out and keeping the lads who are starting on their toes," he said.

"They showed against Sunderland they did really well and we're unfortunate to take some of the chances we made. It shows how much depth we've got and how much choice the manager has in each position."
