SCOTT Arfield and Johann Berg Gudmundsson are set to be absent for Burnley against Southampton this weekend.

Both wide men came off with hamstring injuries in the FA Cup stalemate with Sunderland a week ago, and although neither are serious, they are unlikely to be fit for Saturday.

There is better news for the Clarets on George Boyd, Jon Flanagan and Ashley Barnes, who have all overcome knocks to train today.

“The two lads who came off, Scotty and Johann, are unlikely to be right,” said Clarets chief Sean Dyche.

“We’re hopeful it’s nothing too major, and we’re quite positive with the news from the scans, it’s simple hamstring injuries, but I’d be very surprised if they made it this weekend.”

On Boyd and Flanagan, Dyche added: “They’re ok, they were both knocks, and Ashley Barnes had a knock, but we’re expecting them to be, they all trained today.”

The absence of Arfield and Gudmundsson leaves Boyd and Michael Kightly as Burnley’s only fit wide men, although Jeff Hendrick could also operate wide.
