SCOTT Arfield has hailed Paul Robinson's infectious enthusiasm for the game.

Veteran stopper Robinson made his Burnley debut in the defeat to Manchester City last weekend after signing for the club as cover last January.

The 37-year-old shrugged off a two-year absence from competitive football to impress against Pep Guardiola's title challengers and he could be set to continue between the sticks at the Bet365 Stadium today (3pm) if Tom Heaton fails to shake off a calf problem in time to face Stoke City.

Robinson has had to play second fiddle to Heaton in selection since his free transfer arrival, but the Clarets captain has credited the former England goalkeeper with helping to improve his own game as he follows in his footsteps for the Three Lions.

And Arfield has given in an insight into Robinson's methods on the training ground at Gawthorpe, and the energy he still puts into his craft.

Asked if he was surprised by the former Tottenham and Leeds goalkeeper's performance last weekend, Arfield said: "I think surprised is probably the wrong term.

"With what he's done in the game, you know the calibre of what you’re getting when he comes in. But his flexibility and his mentality, he still trains as if he's 17. That was the biggest thing for me.

"A guy that has done so much and accomplished so much still trains as if he's in the YTS and trying to break into the first team.

"If he can do it, then you look at anybody to try to put that into training and into matches."
