RECORD signing Jeff Hendrick believes confidence will grow in the Clarets camp if they can break their away day duck sooner rather than later.

Burnley will seek a first away win of the season at Stoke City on Saturday as they bid to improve a record on the road that has left Burnley frustrated so far this term.

The goalless draw at Old Trafford is the only point Burnley have picked up on their travels so far, while Sam Vokes’ penalty at Southampton is the only goal they have scored.

Thirteen goals have been shipped at the other end, including four in the uncharacteristic defeat at West Brom just over a week ago.

Hendrick is aware a trip to the Potteries and a Stoke side who have won four of their last six to turn around a slow start to the campaign.

But the £10million summer arrival from Derby County is hoping a first success could breed confidence and allow others to follow, as Burnley prepare for a capital double header with trips to West Ham United and Tottenham in the space of four days before Christmas.

“We’ll have a hard game and we’ll have to make sure that we’re ready. We’ll have a good week’s training building up to it and hopefully we can get something out of the game,” the 24-year-old said of the trip to Stoke.

“That first win will definitely make a difference. The confidence will grow in the group and we’ll take it on from there. It would be nice to start on Saturday.”

Clarets boss Sean Dyche has hinted at changes on the road after The Hawthorns horror show, and Republic of Ireland international Hendrick said the squad had taken on board lessons from that defeat.

“We did learn lessons. We spoke about it during the week and analysed it,” he said.

“We’ve got to learn from that and take it in to other games on the road. We’re doing well at home but we can’t get complacent. We know we’ve got to keep working hard and that’s the minimum.”

Hendrick was pleased to see Burnley respond from the defeat at West Brom with a much improve showing against City.

“We’re disappointed because we would have liked to have got something out of the game, like we do every game,” he said. “We’re happy with the turnaround in performance from Monday so that is a positive but now we’ve got to make sure that we’re ready for the next game.”

Once again the Clarets kept it tight at home against their more illustrious opponents, limiting them to just five shots on target, the same number as Burnley.

“Paul Robinson was great and made an unbelievable save from Aguero in the first half. He’s come in and done really well,” said Hendrick of the Clarets stopper.

“We’ve been doing well against the big teams, making it hard work for them, and that’s what we’ve got to keep on doing.”
