STEVEN Defour is ‘touch and go’ to return to the Burnley side for the Clarets’ trip to Old Trafford on Saturday.

The Belgium midfielder missed the 2-1 win over Everton at Turf Moor having picked up a hamstring strain in the defeat at Southampton.

But the injury was not as bad as first feared and the 28-year-old is now back in contention to face Manchester United this weekend.

George Boyd could also return, while Stephen Ward, who limped out of the victory over the Toffees, has also recovered from that knock.

Ashley Barnes also stepped up his recovery from a hamstring injury this week by playing the full game in the development squad’s 4-2 defeat to Bury.

“Boydy should be fine, he’s trained today and we’ll see how that reacts,” said Clarets chief Sean Dyche.

“Barnesy came through 90 minutes of a development game this week, so that was good.

“Wardy’s fine, that was just a knock.

“Steven is touch and go. He’s come through much quicker than we thought, which we’re pleased about, and that might be a judgement call from ourselves and from him.”
