MATT Lowton is hoping Burnley’s late winning goal against Everton will give the Clarets a lift all week as they seek to claim a first away win of the season at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Sean Dyche’s side have now taken all 10 points this season in front of their own fans and Scott Arfield’s heroics against Everton were the first time they had won a Premier League game in the final minute.

Having been on the wrong end of some injury time goals this season, costing them two points against Hull City and one against Arsenal, the delight at claiming the win against the Toffees was even sweeter, and right-back Lowton believes it’s a feeling that will last all week.

“It gives us confidence,” said the 27-year-old.

“When you score as late as we did (on Saturday) it does seem to carry in to the following week. When you score late on you need to take that positivity and mentality in to the next game.

“They say these things even themselves out over a season so it is nice to get a late goal and to win.

“We pride ourselves a lot on staying in there right until the end of the game.

“We did it last season a lot, we scored some big late goals. It shows how we’re training, the fitness of the lads to keep going right until the end, we’ve got great heart. To come out with the win is brilliant.”

Match-winner Arfield scored one and created another on his return to the side, replacing the injured Steven Defour.

He was one of three key players missing, with Andre Gray serving the final match of his four-game ban, while George Boyd failed to recover from a knock picked up at Southampton the weekend before.

Despite the absentees Burnley had enough to beat Everton, and Lowton was full of praise for the depth in the squad.

“It’s the way that we train as a squad throughout the whole week,” he said. “The manager says that we’ve all got to be ready to step in and do a job and that showed.

“Kights (Michael Kightly) was brilliant and worked his socks off and gave us that little extra going forward. Scotty’s come in and done well too so it shows that we’ve got great depth.”

Everton joined Liverpool and Watford in being beaten at Turf Moor this season, and Lowton said the Clarets are determined to make life miserable for visitors this season.

“We want to make it as tough for people to come here as we can,” said the former Aston Villa man.

“We don’t want them to come here and allow them to play their football, we want to get in their faces.

“We’ve had some big scalps; we beat Liverpool and Everton and we were unfortunate against Arsenal. As long as we can keep performing at home and we’ll hopefully start picking up results away as well.

“We’re doing a good job at the minute. Saying that we’re going to do it is one thing but we’re putting it in to practice against some fantastic teams.

“It’s credit to the staff and the players with the way that we’re setting up. We’re just making sure that teams find it hard to play here.”
