SEAN Dyche has said he had no contact over the Aston Villa job this week.

Dyche shortened dramatically in the bookies odds to take over at Villa Park in the week, becoming second favourite on Tuesday, but within 24 hours the position had gone to Steve Bruce.

And when asked if he’d any contact from Villa over the position Dyche said that he hadn’t.

Dyche, who will celebrate four years in charge of Burnley at the end of this month, could see why his name had been linked with the position, but he was happy to see Bruce get the job.

“It’s just after two promotions in three years out of the Championship I think it’s a commonsensical link more than anything,” he said. “I think they've appointed a very good man.

“I get on well with Brucey and like him a lot as a person as well as his record as a manager. I wish him well.”
