A BRILLIANT BELGIAN

What an impact Steven Defour has had on this Burnley team since he arrived from Anderlecht last month.

The 28-year-old has already shown he is Premier League class and against Watford he looked easily the most technically accomplished player on the pitch.

He displayed a calmness on the ball that settled Burnley's midfield down and he was at the heart of the Clarets best moments.

It is noticeable how much his fitness is improving as well, and he was tenacious when trying to win back possession.

Lancashire Telegraph:

STRIKING SUPPORT

It was also an excellent night for Sam Vokes, who turned in a very impressive display as a lone striker, occupying Watford's central defenders and holding the ball up superbly.

But it was clear that the midfield, and in particular the wide players in George Boyd and Johann Berg Gudmundsson, were trying to get closer to the front than they had done a week ago.

Bringing Gudmundsson in was a masterstroke. He looks well suited to that more attacking wide role and proved a good, direct option.

Lancashire Telegraph:

MIDFIELD FLEXIBILITY

While on paper this looked like a repeat of the 4-2-3-1 formation we saw in the defeat at Leicester, there was far greater flexibility, particularly in central midfield, than there had been at the King Power Stadium.

On that occasion Defour played closest to the front, but against Watford it was Hendrick who occupied that role, however those two, and to a lesser extent Dean Marney, regularly seemed to interchange.

That constant movement bamboozled Watford's midfield.
