THE two big concerns for me after the defeat at Leicester at the weekend are the lack of goals and the fitness of Steven Defour.

We can’t go overboard because we were playing against the champions and for 45 minutes we were fairly solid, but we don’t look like scoring, we’re a bit toothless at the moment, writes Paul Weller

I think there needs to be a change to personnel or a tweak of the system to increase our threat. The concern has to be that we’re not going to score enough goals.

We looked good in that first half and had a chance with the Defour header, they had a good chance through Mahrez, but in the Premier League you get punished for sloppy mistakes, for giving away a silly free-kick and not defending a ball into the box, that’s come back to haunt us again.

We could still be playing now and we wouldn’t have scored. We never threatened at all after going behind, I think Wes Morgan and Robert Huth had quite an enjoyable afternoon, there wasn’t much for them to do.

Sam Vokes came on but didn’t look that lively. I like the look of Patrick Bamford though, he showed some nice touches when he came on and the quicker we can get him into the starting XI the better, we will have a chance of scoring a goal or two.

On the positives I thought Jeff Hendrick did well, he was tidy, he’s got good feet and he’s got energy, which adds to the midfield. Dean Marney looked quite comfortable first half.

The worry in there is Defour, he looks really unfit. I know it’s a step up to the Premier League but it’s not that big.

He was in a position where he didn’t have to do much defensive duty, he was in a position to conserve his energy but he looks shot at times to me. Don’t get me wrong on the ball he’s comfortable and composed, but fitness is a huge thing in football.

The question mark with the change of formation is Andre Gray the type of player who can play up front on his own? I’m not so sure, but the onus in that formation has to be on George Boyd and Scott Arfield to get up and support him, the gap between the five can’t be as big as it was.

Boyd and Arfield, defensively they work hard, but the quality going forward in that final third just isn’t there. George got beyond the full-back a couple of times in the first half but that was it, it’s not enough.

The big thing now is does Sean Dyche stick with the 4-5-1. It accommodates those three central midfielders and I think it can work, but the question then is who does he play as the other three?

If you want to win matches you need match winners, and I’m not sure there’s enough of them on the pitch at the moment.
