CAPTAIN Tom Heaton has urged Burnley to bounce back from their defeat at Premier League champions Leicester City, but admitted there was no hiding from the disappointing manner in which the game got away from the Clarets at the King Power Stadium.

For 45 minutes Burnley looked comfortable against Claudio Ranieri’s side, but they conceded soft goals either side of half-time and struggled to find a response.

Burnley now have an extended break to put the 3-0 defeat behind them before welcoming Watford to Turf Moor next Monday in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Heaton wants to see the Clarets respond against the Hornets, but couldn’t hide his frustration at the way a promising opening in the East Midlands had turned into a disappointing defeat.

“It’s important (to bounce back),” he said.

“We know the magnitude of the challenge and we know that we were away at the Premier League champions. It’s going to be tough but the frustration is that we were well in the game and doing well. It was a soft way to give it away really which is the biggest frustration.

“We were building in to it and I thought we contained them well, we had a couple of decent bits of play, and then unfortunately we’ve conceded a bit of a soft free kick and with a good delivery in the lad has got on the end of it and powered a header in.

“All of a sudden it’s a completely different game going in to half-time.

“It is disappointing, there’s no hiding that. That last couple of minutes before the end of the first half and the next couple of minutes when we’re looking to get back in to the game - all of a sudden you’re 2-0 down away from home and the game got away from us very quickly.”

Heaton was only called into action once before the Foxes took the lead, saving with his feet from Riyad Mahrez, while Steven Defour sent a header straight at Ron-Robert Zieler when he should have scored to give the Clarets the lead.

It was a second successive 3-0 defeat on the road for Burnley and Heaton knows they have to get the small details right if they are to compete at the highest level.

“We know it can be tough. We’re disappointed with that (on Saturday),” he said.

“The important thing is that we get those details right because it counts. We’ve seen it plenty of times and we all know that teams can hurt you. It makes it even more important which is another source of frustration.

“When we look at it I’m sure there’ll be a lot of good stuff that we can take from the first part of the game and we’ll look to learn from the rest of it.”

One of few positives for Burnley was a first start and 90 minutes for record signing Jeff Hendrick, who was part of a three-man midfield with Defour and Dean Marney as Sean Dyche opted for a switch from the usual 4-4-2 formation.

“Jeff looks like a top player having trained with him all week,” said Heaton.

“Obviously we brought in Steven Defour and we’ve got Dean Marney in there as well so there’s a lot of quality in that midfield. I think he’ll be a great signing for us.”
