ISLAM Slimani scored twice on his Premier League debut as Leicester City ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Burnley.

Having looked composed and comfortable for 45 minutes, the Clarets conceded sloppy goals either side of half time to effectively end their chances of getting anything from the home of the champions.

They then failed to muster any sort of response to that double blow, with the Foxes going on to net a third through a Ben Mee own goal as they showed no European hangover from Wednesday’s win in Belgium.

Sean Dyche has spoken previously of the success both Leicester and Burnley have enjoyed with a 4-4-2 formation, so it was something of a surprise when he changed that shape here.

Sam Vokes was the unfortunate striker to miss out, with Jeff Hendrick making his first start for the club in his place, sitting deep alongside Dean Marney in a 4-2-3-1, with Steven Defour pushed further up.

The only other change saw Scott Arfield return in place of Johann Berg Gudmundsson out wide.

Leicester’s first good sighting of goal came midway through the first half. Riyad Mahrez had looked their most dangerous outlet and he picked the ball up near the halfway line on the right, darting in between a couple of markers and past a sliding Stephen Ward, before a stepover inside the area created room for a right-footed shot from eight yards which Tom Heaton saved with his legs.

Both sides missed glorious headed chances within a minute of each other with 10 minutes to go until the break.

For Burnley George Boyd’s left-wing cross was headed back by Arfield to an unmarked Defour, but his header from six-yards out was straight at Ron-Robert Zieler, when either side of him would almost certainly have been a goal.

At the other end Christian Fuchs swung in an inviting delivery from the left which was perfect for Mahrez’s run across the near post, but he headed narrowly wide from six yards.

For 45 minutes Burnley had looked good at the home of the champions, but in the space of three minutes the game went away from them.

The first, in stoppage time at the end of the first half, was entirely preventable. Matt Lowton had struggled against Marc Albrighton all game but he needlessly jumped into the winger near the byline to concede a soft free-kick. Fuchs swung the set-piece in and Slimani got a run in between Michael Keane and Mee to head home from five yards.

The second, just over two minutes into the second half, had a stroke of luck about it but the Foxes found their way into the Clarets area a little too easily all the same.

Vardy’s angled ball played Mahrez into a dangerous position inside the area, and as he tried to bamboozle Mee he clipped an attempted ball back to Vardy, but saw it deflected, from which the Leicester striker flicked it with his heel and the ball fell to Slimani to once again head home unmarked from inside the six-yard box.

That double blow seemed to take the sting from the Clarets as they struggled to muster a fightback, and it was the home side who were putting the pressure on, with two successive corners causing panic at the back, with Mahrez having a 20-yard shot deflected over, before Daniel Amartey’s effort was cleared off the line and Fuchs’ drilled shot was deflected wide.

The third goal that Leicester had been threatening arrived with 12 minutes to go, Mahrez gliding past Ward as if he wasn’t there and sending in a low cross which Mee could only poke past Heaton as he stretched to intercept.

With 10 minutes to go the Clarets finally roused themselves for a threat at the Leicester goal, with Gudmundsson’s 25-yard free-kick taking a deflection off the wall and temporarily wrong-footing Zieler, who sprang back to his right to palm the ball to safety.
