MOVING to a new club in a new part of the country is never without its challenges, but for Burnley’s record signing Jeff Hendrick getting his head around the system of training ground fines is proving particularly difficult.

The 24-year-old has been training with his new teammates for just over a week now, having completed his £10million move from Derby County while away of international duty.

He has been granted a week’s grace when it comes to coughing up for Gawthorpe misdemeanours, but admits he’s still not entirely sure what constitutes a fine and what doesn’t, so may have to keep his wallet close at hand next Friday, when it’s time for debts to be settled.

“They’ve tried to stitch me up a few times,” Hendrick said of his first full week with his new colleagues.

“There are a few rules which have been around.

“Friday it comes to fines. There’s a system put in place but luckily I’ve had a week’s grace. They’ve let a few things slide for me, but they’ve been waiting to catch me out.”

So what does bring a fine? “Leaving a bottle around, just silly little things like that,” Hendrick added.

“I’m on top of it now, but there was no rulebook there for me to study so I’m sort of picking up the rules as I go along.

“Myself and Pat (Patrick Bamford) have been getting to know them that way.”

Hendrick still isn’t sure of the price of these fines, and he revealed his teammates weren’t being particularly forthcoming when it comes to pointing these things out, although his Republic of Ireland international teammate Stephen Ward has been doing his bit.

Asked how much a fine was, Hendrick said: “I don’t know. They’re not telling me.

“With the week’s grace I’ve maybe been testing the waters to find out what is a fineable offence.

“Wardy’s helped me if I’ve done anything wrong, he’s told me I can’t do that.

“A few of them have been making me worried but I don’t know if they’re being sarcastic. I suppose I’ll soon find out.

“With the international break I didn’t get to witness many fines.”

If it sounds like Hendrick is taking a relaxed approach to setting in at his new club then that is certainly the impression he gives.

Today brings his first away trip with the Clarets and last night he was set for his away day initiation, singing a song for his teammates at the hotel.

On Thursday Hendrick knew nothing about his solo, but he was more than happy to take to the stage.

“If they want me to sing a song I’ll sing them one,” he said. I won’t be good but I’ll sing. I’ve done it before.”

Hendrick will bid for his first Burnley start today, having come off the bench last weekend, and he revealed he had his heart set on a Turf Moor move from the moment the Clarets came in for him, especially after talking to teammates who had previously played under Sean Dyche, including Jason Shackell, Chris Baird and John Eustace.

“I liked the feel I got. When Burnley came in they were there from the start, they put a few bids in,” he said. “I know there was talk of a few other clubs but for me it was Burnley. I’ve talked to players who had played here previously and under the manager and there was not a bad word said, so that was all positive from me. And it was Premier League football, something I hadn’t done and I’d wanted to do all my life. I wasn’t going to say no to that.”
