SEAN Dyche says his side will go to Stamford Bridge with the freedom to upset ‘big guns’ Chelsea after a week of two very different results.

The Clarets got their first Premier League win in style last Saturday when they beat a well-fancied Liverpool side despite only having a 19 per cent of possession at Turf Moor.

But they were brought crashing back down to Earth with defeat at Accrington, albeit with a side featuring 10 changes and in an EFL Cup competition which is not the priority at Turf Moor this season.

Dyche, however, claims the reverse at the Wham Stadium won’t have a detrimental effect on his squad as they journey to one of the major bases of wealth in the Premier League.

“That’s just football,” he said. “We delivered two different performances - one very dominant, one less dominant.

“We got a win against the odds, and then lost against the odds. That’s sometimes the way it is.

“It doesn’t change the mood. We know the main target this year.

“It doesn’t mean we’re diminishing the thought of a cup, but the main goal is what we’re trying to achieve in the Premier League and we know that.”

The Blues look to be on the way back up after a tumultuous campaign last season which saw Jose Mourinho sacked in December following a run of nine defeats in 16 games.

Former Italy boss Antonio Conte took over after the Euros and, despite having much of the same squad that underperformed as the Blues finished 10th in May, he has seen his side win their first two Premier League games - 2-1 triumphs over West Ham and Watford. Dyche warned: “It’s a completely different challenge, a radically different challenge.

“Chelsea is one of the bigger clubs in the Premier League historically. It was a quiet year for them last year, but they’ve started well this year.

“New manager, big signings, big players in general, so it’s a completely different situation.”

Much has been made of the possession stats against Liverpool, and while Dyche won’t expect his side to surrender as much at Stamford Bridge, he know the big-spending rivals will dominate for periods of the game.

And he says Chelsea fall into the category of teams Burnley are not expected to win against.

“The power of the Premier League, the real big guns in the Premier League, they can keep the ball and they can hurt you in different ways,” he added.

“That’s not just the knowledge and experience they have, but the quality they’ve got.

“You don’t have to look too far beyond the amount of finance these clubs spend on players. Eventually, if you spend enough money, you’re going to get some very high-quality footballers.

“We know the challenge ahead of us and we know there’s a group (of teams) that we’d more be hoping to get points against and we know there’s a group that’s more difficult to get points against, particularly away from home, and Chelsea come into that.

“It’s the beauty of football and why we all love it, when you can go away to these places with a bit of freedom, take on the game and see what comes your way.”
