BURNLEY midfielder David Jones is set to join Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.

The 31-year-old started the Clarets’ Premier League opener against Swansea City on Saturday but it now appears that game will be his Turf Moor farewell.

The Owls have met a release clause in the two-year contract the former Manchester United man signed just 12 months ago and reports in Sheffield say he is due to undergo a medical on Tuesday ahead of signing a three-year deal, with a potential debut tonight at Burton Albion.

The switch across the Pennines has developed quickly, with Jones put up to face the media last Thursday ahead of Burnley’s first game of the season when he spoke about how he felt at home in East Lancashire after three years at the club.

But that association looks set to come to an end.

While Jones will depart the midfield ranks Burnley look set to add the signing of Belgium international Steven Defour.

The 28-year-old is set to formally complete his £7.5million move from Anderlecht today having passed a medical and agreed personal terms.

Official confirmation of the switch was delayed due to it being a national holiday in Belgium.
