MICHAEL Keane admits interest in him from Premier League champions Leicester City is ‘flattering’ but the central defender insists he is happy at Turf Moor.

Keane was at the centre of a controversial moment during the Clarets’ opening day Premier League defeat to Swansea when he was denied a penalty.

But the 23-year-old was just happy to get the season underway having been the subject of a transfer tug-of-war during the summer, with the Foxes failing with a £15million bid for his services.

Leicester could yet return with another offer for the former Manchester United youngster, further testing Burnley’s resolve to keep him, but Keane said it had been easy to shut the speculation out during pre-season.

“It’s been easy; I’ve just been focusing on football,” he said.

“I came back in and I’ve just been working hard and focusing on doing my best for Burnley. I’m really happy that the season has started and I just want to kick on from here.

“It’s flattering to see but I’m happy here. We played well and it’s not been hard for me over the summer at all. I’ve just got on with it and put it to the back of my mind.”

Keane was a key figure in Burnley’s Championship title-winning side last season and but for a pull on his shirt from Leroy Fer when he looked certain to head home from close range he could have helped the Clarets to a winning start on their Premier League return.

Instead the penalty appeals were waved away, despite officials insisting there will be a crackdown on shirt pulling in the penalty area this season, and it was Fer who went on to score the winner for the Swans.

“It obviously affected me enough,” Keane said of the pull on him.

“I literally just had to get my head to it and it was a goal.

“I felt a pull and I couldn’t reach it anymore so I just ended up glancing it. I was claiming for a penalty but the ref wasn’t going to give it for a little pull like that even though we’ve been told they’re clamping down on that.

“If we go 1-0 up we’ve got a good record of seeing games out but it’s one of those things. It didn’t go our way but hopefully it will come at some point.

“We definitely deserved a point. The first half was quite even but in the second half I thought we were the better team. They had five minutes of pressure but we dealt with it really well, apart from the goal.”

Swans goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski make some vital saves to keep Burnley at bay and Keane believes the Clarets’ opening day defeat is a reminder of the importance of taking chances in the Premier League.

“He made some good saves but that’s what we’ve got to expect at this level,” said Keane. “We need to be more ruthless.

“They’ve proved that because they’ve only had one or two chances but scored the goal. We’ve probably had more but the keeper has made some great saves.

“It’s not a nice feeling losing but you saw the spirit of the team. Even when we went 1-0 down we went close to equalising. There’s a long way to go and we’ve got a lot of belief so hopefully we’ll get that win in the next few games.”

Meanwhile Steven Defour is set to undergo a medical today ahead of his £7.5million move to Burnley from Anderlecht.

The Belgian midfielder is due in the North West ahead of his finalising his switch early this week, and Dyche revealed the Clarets were closing in on the deal after the Swansea defeat.

“We’re waiting on that one,” he said. “There’s positive noises about that one so we’ll wait and see if that one develops.

“We know we need more depth to the squad, we have done ever since I’ve been here.”
