PAUL Robinson admits his role at Burnley is about helping Tom Heaton as much as trying to dislodge him as the Clarets No.1.

The 36-year-old, who penned a new one-year deal with the Clarets earlier this summer, has yet to make a competitive appearance for Sean Dyche's side.

That is in part down to the form of Heaton who travelled to Euro 2016 as England's third choice goalkeeper.

And Robinson, is almost certain to start Burnley's first pre-season friendly of the summer against Swiss side FC Nyon on Friday night, knows his role at Turf Moor is about more than a battle for a first team spot.

“I’ve been challenging Tom since I came here, and at the same time helping him," Robinson said from Burnley's training camp in Evian.

“He’s a great lad and a really talented goalkeeper and at my age, with the experience and the games I’ve played, I think there’s a lot I can offer him as well.”

Robinson added that he is enjoying the summer camp in Evian as the Clarets build towards the Premier League season.

“It’s a great setting, the organisation and facilities are fantastic, and it’s just a great place to put the foundations in for the start of the season.

“Hopefully I’ll get a game on Friday and then, with Tom having been given a bit of extra time for the Euros, I’ll maybe get the next few games as well, before he comes in and gets his games towards the end of pre-season and we’ll be into the season before we know it!”

“This is my 21st pre-season, but I am enjoying it very much."
