BURNLEY midfielder Dean Marney admits he will not worry about any prospective new midfield signings at Turf Moor as Sean Dyche looks to strengthen the Clarets squad for the Premier League season.

Marney's midfield partner from last season Joey Barton turned down the offer of a new deal to sign for Scottish Premier League side Rangers and Marney is fully aware he could face extra competition for places in the middle of the park this season.

The Clarets have had bids rejected for Derby's Jeff Hendrick and Brighton's Dale Stephens this week.

But Marney is taking all the transfer talk in his stride.

Speaking from Evian, where the Clarets are on a pre-season camp ahead of the first friendly of the summer against Nyon on Friday night, Marney said: "I have never really been one for worrying about players coming in. I just look upon it as another challenge to try and make sure I am in the team.

"I am thinking bigger picture and I want the best for the club and the squad because I want us to be a established premier league club and not just a yo yo club going up and down. It is a big season for everyone really."

The Clarets ended their Championship winning campaign on a 23-game unbeaten run and Marney is keen to keep the feel-good factor going with five of Burnley's first seven Premier League games being at Turf Moor.

He added: "It has been a massive unbeaten run and it is important we keep that momentum really. I am sure the gaffer is looking to add to one or two to add to what we have got for what is going to be a tough season but something we have to embrace."

Marney had an injury-hit 2015-16 campaign as the Clarets won the Championship title but the 32-year-old is now fully fit and relishing another taste of top-flight football after a cruciate ligament injury cut his season short the last time the Clarets were in the Premier League, sidelining him until December.

The former Hull City midfielder then suffered a series of niggling injuries at the start of the year but, having regained his starting spot towards the end of last season, Marney is looking forward to getting a full pre-season behind him.

"I missed last pre-season and when you miss pre-season I think it is always hard to get that real fitness back. I am looking forward to having hopefully an injury free summer and looking ahead to the season."

Of his cruciate injury he added: "It was a tough time and bad timing for everybody really. I missed 10 months in the end and then I had a series of little niggles so it was nice towards the end to get a run of games.

"I ended up having four calf tears and a hamstring and thigh injury all on that side.

"I got back in and thought I would push in and then Hull away I tore my calf and tried to carry on and just made it worse and then couldn't seem to get back fully fit. I was on the bench a lot and the team was doing well so I had to be be patient."
