BURNLEY have paid out nearly £4million in add-ons for transfers since securing promotion to the Premier League.

The majority of that cash has headed to Brentford, with the Clarets securing the signings of Andre Gray, for an initial fee of £6million last August, and James Tarkowski, for £3million, in the January transfer window, from the Bees.

It is understood promotion add-ons for Gray, who ended the season as top scorer in the Championship, and Tarkowski, who has played four times since his arrival, total £3.5million.

Of that £2million is from the Gray deal, with around 25 per cent of that total (£500,000) heading from Brentford to Luton as part of the Hatters’ sell-on clause for the man they sold to the Griffin Park club for an initial £500,000 two years ago.

Brentford are also due a further £1.5million for the deal which took Tarkowski to Turf Moor in a move mooted for much of January but finally completed on the final day of the transfer window.

The former Oldham centre back was keen to return to the North West from London.

Gray scored 23 goals for Burnley in 41 league games, which took his total tally in the league to 25 after he netted twice in the first two games for the Bees.

Chesterfield are also believed to have received a six-figure add-on for Tendayi Darikwa, with the 24-year-old joining Burnley from the Spireites last July and featuring in 21 Championship games as the Clarets won the title.

Chesterfield Chief Executive Chris Turner said: “We have all the clauses and sell on clauses - they’re all in there. The players who left, Darikwa, (Sam) Clucas and (Sam) Morsy all have some incentive. That’s my job! To get the best amount of money for each individual player that leaves, and get clauses in that if they are successful or move on again, that we get our share of the player.”

Meanwhile, Turner is also keen to take Burnley’s young central defender Tom Anderson on a season-long loan deal for next season.

The 22-year-old featured 18 times in a loan spell at the Proact Stadium in the second half of this season.
