THIS is going to be a massive summer for Burnley, the time for standing still is over, we need to move forward.

For me the last couple of times Burnley have been up they’ve stood still too much. Financially the club are in a great place and now they need to make sure they are a proper Premier League club, not a yo-yo club.

They have to start building for the future and get everything spot on. Financially there are no excuses now.

For the first time Sean Dyche is hopefully going to get a good, good budget to go and play with. He’s going to be tested with his recruitment team to put a squad together that will be good enough to hold its own and stay in the Premier League.

He’s going to have be ruthless with replacing some players in this squad. I’m not saying it’s massive numbers that need to come in but it has to be quality.

We’re not strengthening the bench now, that’s been done, the squad is right. It’s about improving the first team now and signing that real quality. I think we’ll need pace as well, it’s going to be very interesting.

Looking back what a perfect day it was on Saturday. It was a fantastic following, a great performance, winning the title, it was a great way to end what has been a fantastic 2016.

After the Hull game I think everyone was a bit nervous heading into 2016 and not sure what to expect, but what a run they’ve been on. They’ve been absolutely brilliant and ultimately deserve the end prize of getting back in the Premier League.

It was a shame they didn’t get the title on Saturday though. I thought the whole scenario was embarrassing.

The presentation at the town hall was poor, it just wasn’t right. It wasn’t good for the players and it wasn’t good for the fans, hardly anybody could see it. It should have been on the pitch, at Charlton, on the TV and in front of those fantastic away fans. It is what it is, they’ve had to deal with it.

Finally I hope Tom Heaton gets the call-up with England for Euro 2016 on Monday. He’s a fantastic goalkeeper, he’s brilliant.

He constantly performs. He pulls out great saves we all now take for granted.

He should be rewarded for a great season. I’d be disappointed if Roy Hodgson didn’t include him in the England squad.
