THE Clarets vintage of 2015/16 are determined to write their names into Burnley's history books, according to winger George Boyd.

Victory over Preston extended the unbeaten league run this season to 21 games, the longest in a single season since the end of the Second World War.

If Sean Dyche's side avoid defeat in their final two games this season, at home to Queens Park Rangers and away at Charlton, then the Clarets will break the 22 game unbeaten streak set across two seasons in 1972.

And Boyd admits there is great pride in the dressing room at a run that is setting new benchmarks at Turf Moor, with this side keen to leave a lasting impression on the record books.

"There’s massive pride to break any record," said Boyd. "We’ve broken a few this year which shows how well we’ve been playing.

"We know how big this is for the club and we want to put our names in the history books."

The unbeaten run dates back to the Boxing Day defeat at Hull City, a 3-0 reverse that left the Clarets fifth in the Championship table, six points adrift of Brighton and Middlesbrough and seven behind leaders Derby County.

Fourteen wins and seven draws since then, with 38 goals scored and only 12 conceded, have transformed Burnley's season and they sit top of the league now, ahead of Boro and Brighton on goal difference.

Wins over QPR and Charlton will secure the Clarets immediate Premier League return, and asked if he would have taken than on Boxing Day, Boyd said: "I think anyone would have on Boxing Day.

"We were miles away then but 21 unbeaten is an incredible run and long may it continue."

Burnley's squad is packed with promotion winning experience and it could be a second ascension to the top flight for Boyd.

He joined Hull City on loan in February 2013 when the Tigers were already three points clear in the top two.

He played 13 times for Steve Bruce's side in that season, scoring four goals, but admits a promotion with the Clarets this season would better than that achievement.

"Definitely," he said when asked if this would be his best promotion. "Getting into the Premier League has to be the best promotions.

"I wasn’t there at Hull the whole season, I only had a couple of months there, so to be there from start to finish and see it through will be amazing."

And Boyd is personally hitting form at the right time after a slow start to the campaign.

He scored one and set the other up in the win over Birmingham in a man-of-the-match display and was superb again at Deepdale as the Clarets secured Lancashire bragging rights with victory over Preston.

"I feel good," said the 30-year-old, who now has four goals and five assists this season.

"When it matters most I’ve been producing."
