BURNLEY'S top scorer Andre Gray said promotion would not be won or lost on the outcome of today's game with Championship table toppers Hull City, but he admits the Turf Moor clash is a big game.

Gray, who has 18 goals this season, 16 of them for the Clarets, said: "It will be a big game but nothing’s won or lost there, so we just need to treat it as a normal game and hopefully get the three points.

"It’s good to take points off the teams around you, but I think this league shows it’s not as easy as just beating the teams around you, you’ve got to beat the ones that are below you as well.

"If we’d have won on Tuesday and Saturday everyone would think we’re going to go on and win the league, but it’s not as easy as that, we’ve got to go to tough grounds and still go to tough games who are fighting relegation and fighting for something, so it’s not won or lost on Saturday."

Gray struck again in the 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, opening the scoring inside four minutes.

The goal was laid down by Sam Vokes, and Gray believes the two are developing a better understanding as the season goes on.

And the former Brentford man is delighted with how his season is going from a personal point of view, but said it would mean nothing if it didn't help Burnley to promotion.

"We feel we’re getting better as a partnership, we’re giving each other assists and we’re both scoring goals, so we need to continue that to give us a chance of getting promoted," said Gray of his partnership with Vokes.

"It’s been a great season for me so far. But it’s not going to be the best season unless we get promoted, so that’s the main aim."
