NEW Burnley signing James Tarkowski said the club 'ticked all the boxes' as he completed his move to Turf Moor.

The 23-year-old has been Burnley's number one transfer target throughout the January transfer window and he penned a three-and-a-half year deal today after the Clarets agreed a fee of around £3million plus add-ons with Brentford.

And Tarkowski, who will wear the number 26 shirt for the Clarets, is delighted that he has finally put pen to paper, having seen Burnley's initial bid for his services rejected by the Bees in the first week of the transfer window.

"It feels good to be here. It’s a situation that has gone on for the last few weeks and I think the club ticked all the boxes to be honest," he said.

“It’s a team going in the right direction and one with a real fighting chance of getting straight back to the Premier League.

“I’m looking forward to getting started and it allows me to get back to my roots, where I like to be.”

Tarkowski is the second arrival from Brentford this season, following on from Andre Gray's £6million move in the summer.

And the Manchester-born centre half said he had discussed life at Turf Moor with the Championship's top scorer.

"I had a few chats with Andre just to see how things have been since he moved down here and then just picked up little bits of information," said the 23-year-old.

"Since he’s been here he has been on fire, scoring lots of goals and it’s another reason why I came here to be honest.

"I’ve heard a lot about the gaffer from other players and a lot the club’s recent success has been down to him."

And former Oldham centre back Tarkowski is keen to show the Clarets supporters what he can do, although he accepts he may have a fight on his hands to get into the first team, with Michael Keane and Ben Mee impressing in central defence recently.

"I would class myself as a footballing centre-half, but obviously I’m here to defend as well. I do like to get on the ball as much as I can though," he said.

“This is a team doing well and I don’t expect to turn up and go straight into the team that is doing so well.

“I’ll have to wait my chance and then show what I’m all about when it comes around. Hopefully then, I can get in the team and stay there.”
