SEAN Dyche remains active in the transfer market with just three days to go before the January window closes.

But the Burnley boss says he has faith in the squad as it stands in the event of missing out on targets.

The Clarets have had offers for Brentford duo James Tarkowski and Alan Judge rejected by the Bees.

Mancunian Tarkowski, who is also on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar, is keen to return to the north west but Brentford’s valuations for the centre half - and Judge - have not been met.

Dyche, who has so far added goalkeeper Paul Robinson on a free transfer, said money has been made available for him to spend before the February 1 deadline, but there is a limit.

And he is only prepared to push for players who he feels will enhance his squad rather than make up the numbers.

“If we could add to it, it would only be to add players that I think would at least compete with the people that we’ve got and therefore add that demand, but hopefully improve what we’ve got,” said the Burnley boss.

“There’s no point for me in adding for the sake of adding because we like the players we’ve got and they’ve been productive so far.

“We can only go so far with it (financially) and that is the challenge for me as manager. It’s not a never-ending situation where you keep adding. The club don’t want that, so that’s the way it goes.

“I’ve always made it clear we don’t discuss amounts of money. There is a level that the club wants to go to. I manage that level the best I can.

“The club have made it clear to me there is some money available - it’s not huge amounts of money because of the ongoing nature of the club.

“There are some situations that we’ve attempted to open up, they will open up to a level.

“Someone mentioned about an £8million for someone - wrong club again. I get that a lot. That won’t be the case.”

Of speculation surrounding his targets Dyche added: “We’ve been linked with loads of players. I don’t think it’s just us by the way, it’s every club.

“It (the transfer window) is good for tittle tattle, it’s good to start a rumour, it’s just how far those rumours go. Some go out of nothing and do grow into something that seems real and it’s not real.

“There are certain situations we’re involved in and certain ones we’re not.”

Asked of the prospects of adding to his squad before the deadline he said: “We’ll see”, confirming that he was actively trying.

“All the organisational point of view is good and the process is good but it still takes those people to say ‘Yes’ or not.”

But should his attempts not bear fruit, he has backed his existing squad to keep making progress, after climbing to third in the Championship with a run of three league wins on the spin - four in all competitions after beating Middlesbrough in the FA Cup to set up a fourth round tie at Arsenal tomorrow.

“I think we’re showing real signs of being productive, which is the key thing,” said Dyche.

“As I suggested there have been a few bumps in the road but it’s unlikely you don’t have those little spells.

“Derby are going through one now - still a very good side with very good players but having an awkward run. It’s the division as it is."
