BURNLEY will not get ahead themselves as they look for an immediate return to the Premier League, according to boss Sean Dyche.

The Clarets have taken 16 points from their last seven games to move into the play-off positions in the Championship, but Dyche insists the focus remains on the next game.

With international fixtures this weekend Burnley have a 15 day break without a game after the 2-1 win at Rotherham a week ago.

They have spent the early part of this week training and relaxing at the La Manga resort, in Spain, and will be back at Gawthorpe next week as they prepare for a return to action against struggling rivals Bolton.

That starts a run of three games in a week which sees a midweek trip to Nottingham Forest bookended by the East Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.

But Dyche isn’t letting his focus shift yet and will focus solely on the visit of Neil Lennon’s Wanderers over the next week, rather than break the season down into blocks of games as he looks to juggle his resources over a demanding 46 game Championship campaign.

“We just look at every game as it comes,” said Dyche. “I’ve said for years and people have come to accept it. It’s just the way that I work, the main focus is on the next game.”

The Clarets have far greater depth to their squad this season than they did in the promotion winning campaign of 2013/14, but Dyche is reluctant to start rotating and resting his players, and planning breaks, just yet.

“I spoke to some of the managers in the Champions League last season and it’s probably harder for them because they maybe have to look beyond the next game for many different reasons, both physical and mental to bring rest periods to players,” he said.

“We think it’s appropriate to look at the next game and challenge ourselves to win that one.

“We look beyond that as soon as that’s finished. We’ve found a good way of operating like that so that’s what we stick to.”
