ANDRE Gray and Sam Vokes combined to ensure Burnley bounced back from a first home defeat and went into the international break buoyant with the goals in a 2-1 win at Rotherham United last night.

The Clarets took advantage of getting a head-start on their Championship rivals with their Friday night televised fixture and climbed back up to third.

Gray, back in the line-up after a one-game absence with a hamstring strain, replaced Rouwen Hennings, who missed the game after his wife went into labour.

And it took Burnley’s record signing just nine minutes to make his mark, beating Lee Camp to the ball in the box and poking past the keeper.

They were not able to build on their first-half chances, though, and that seemed set to cost them when the dangerous Grant Ward came up with a stunning 75th minute equaliser.

Vokes had other ideas though, and has gone joint top of the club’s leading scorer chart with Michael Keane with his third of the season.

Gray said of the win: “They had a lot to prove with a new manager so it was good to nick it.

“We want to go up automatically so it’s important to get three points tonight. There is a long way to go, a long way in the season but we are up there.”
