BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche has explained he sanctioned Jelle Vossen’s swift Turf Moor departure because of the striker’s family reasons.

The striker, who spent a season on loan at Middlesbrough last year, was a £2.5million signing from RC Genk in the summer.

But in a bizarre transfer twist the 26-year-old Belgian was this week sold to Club Brugge, just two months after joining the Clarets, who recouped their fee.

“Jelle came in as an important signing and wanting to make the best of the move, but sometimes life get in the way of things,” said Dyche.

“He has just been married in the summer and his wife hadn’t found it easy to settle. There was a club very interested in him, to make sure the business side all worked out.

“It’s hard then for a player to be at a club in another country when his motivation is questioned by his life. We have to make sure that both are combined.

“It’s a completely different thing when you are on loan, as he was last year, because you always think you are going to head back to Belgium.

“Then, of course, he comes here and has to lay down roots. He found that very difficult, so we honoured the fact that a club back home came in, sorted out the business side of the deal. We moved that forward quickly, for the benefit of both parties.”
