I’M really happy that Joey Barton has signed for Burnley, because I think he is just what we need.

He may be a controversial signing and perhaps he will divide opinion – but why not.

I’m more concerned with what he does on the pitch and he will certainly give that bit of bite in midfield that we’ve been missing.

I thought he would be knocking on the door of a Premier League club, but that has not been the case.

The season has started and he wasn’t playing so a decision perhaps needed to be made one way or another.

As it’s only a one-year contract, it’s not a massive gamble from Burnley’s point of view, and he seems to like the way that Sean Dyche works.

Barton is going to be a great addition to the side, and on top of the new record signing Andre Gray this could be an excellent transfer window for the Clarets.

I didn’t expect the club to spend so much money this summer, but it’s a welcome development.

There is pressure on Gray, and also the manager, to deliver because of the pricetag. But while the supporters will have high expectations I think they will give him the time he needs to settle in, and for the manager to figure out who his best strike partner will be.

Sam Vokes would be the one I’d definitely be looking at. But maybe Lukas Jutkiewicz will get the nod first.

I was surprised to see him on the team sheet last weekend after being linked with Nottingham Forest.

He tries so hard and he deserves the goal he is craving.

And it may turn out that he works well with Gray and they bring the best out of each other.

It’s a tricky game at Bristol City tomorrow, going down to play against an old manager too.

Although Michael Duff will be the only one who worked under him at Burnley the fans will make the rest of the players aware how important three points are against him.
