And manager Sean Dyche said cruciate knee ligament injury victims Dean Marney and Kevin Long are close to reporting back for full first team training.

Right back Lowton has been sidelined since the pre-season friendly with Fleetwood in July.

But while Dyche is pleased with his progress he said tomorrow’s visit of Brentford would be too soon to be in contention for a place in the squad.

“Matty Lowton’s back active with us (on Thursday) for the first time,” he said.

“Saturday will probably come too quickly for him to be classed as being fit for the game, but he’s back with us.

“The long-term injured lads, particularly Longy and Marns, are on the verge of being back active with us.”

Fredrik Ulvestad is not yet available for selection, after suff-ering an ankle injury.
