BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche said pre-season injuries had taken their toll as the Clarets let a 2-0 lead slip in defeat at Chesterfield.

Lukas Jutkiewicz was once more the only fit and available senior striker for the friendly against Dyche's old club at the Proact Stadium.

The former Middlesbrough man was on target again, for the third time this summer, to give Burnley a lead that was doubled by George Boyd midway through the first half.

But Jake Orrell pulled a goal back soon after, and substitutes Armand Gnanduillet and Byron Harrison scored in the second half to secure a late win for Dean Saunders' League One side.

Dyche said there were errors in the game that needed to be ironed out.

But his biggest concern is getting as close to a fully fit squad as possible before the start of the season.

"At this stage we're working from very low numbers, we were struggling to make subs at the end because we have another game on Tuesday, and obviously are missing our strikers which makes a big difference to the way we play," said the Burnley boss.

"First half, overall I thought we controlled it, and the game should have been out of sight with the chances we had, but credit to Chesterfield, they went hard all game and made loads of subs, and had that freshness at the end.

"We'll get that over 95 minutes from playing these games, so that's an important factor.

"We were very good first half an hour particularly, they got a little bit of the ball the last 15 minutes, but we conceded a really poor goal.

"Kights (Michael Kightly) gets done on the outside and they have an easy goal, but pre-season is to get those glitches out of the system.

"In the second half they scored a worldy and a scramble at the end, but it will be different when we get our strikers back, because they often change the way the team work and the outcome."

Dyche is hopeful of having at least one of his injured strikers available for Tuesday's game at Fleetwood Town "We've brought Jelle Vossen in and haven't really seen that much of him apart from in training, Vokesy (Sam Vokes) we want to get fully fit, Marvin Sordell, they're not serious, we think they'll probably be ready for Tuesday so that gives us more bodies," said the Burnley boss.

"But it's interrupted the plan because we wanted one group to play 90 today and another group on Tuesday, with some crossing over, and with the injuries they hold you back from getting your main team out there and fully fit.

"We may possibly arrange more games. It's just the timing of the injuries because they're not serious, they are minor, but with this tranche of games you only need to miss a week or so and you've missed four opportunities to play.

"That's just pre-season for you."

Meanwhile, after two failed bids for Nottingham Forest's Henri Lansbury yesterday, Dyche said he is close to adding to his squad.

"There's things that are getting closer, they're not there yet, it's a tough market - we found that before, and now we're in a different market it's still tough to make sure we can get things done, but we are very active," he said.
