SCOTT Arfield insists he is determined to help Burnley bounce back into the Premier League after signing a new three-year deal at the club.

The midfielder, who had two years remaining on his previous contract, made 40 appearances for the Clarets in the top-flight last season and now wants to help Sean Dyche’s side secure promotion at the first attempt.

Arfield, who scored twice last season including an opening night blockbuster against Chelsea, believes Sean Dyche’s side are in good shape to challenge for promotion when the new season kicks off against Leeds United on August 8.

The 26-year-old follows Tom Heaton in signing an extended deal at Turf Moor, although Arfield’s is still subject to paperwork.

“It’s been a fantastic journey so far for me personally coming here and experiencing the promotion season, then the fans getting to see us in the Premier League.

“Once you get a taste for that environment with the top stadiums and top players you know it’s where this club deserves to be and we’ll do our upmost to get us back there.

“I think this is an indication from the club that they want to be back in the Premier League and that’s certainly where I want to be.

“Tom Heaton and I were in the same situation in terms of wanting to pledge our future to get this club back into the top flight and we’ve got a great platform to do so.”

Arfield joined Burnley on a free transfer from Huddersfield Town ahead of the 2013-14 season and has since gone to make 89 appearances for the club - scoring 11 goals.

And the Scot, who scored the winner for Burnley in their 1-0 pre-season friendly win against Rangers in midweek, said extending his stay with the Clarets was a simple decision.

“Burnley is where you want to play football,” added Arfield, who began his career with Scottish club Falkirk.

“The fans get right behind you and it’s a fantastic dressing room to be in - it was a no-brainer for me to extend my stay here.”

Arfield is expected to be involved in the Burnley squad for today’s pre-season friendly away at Chesterfield (3pm).
