NEW signing Jelle Vossen says he has joined Burnley to fulfil his Premier League ambitions.

The Belgian striker is set to make his first appearance since penning a three-year deal from RC Genk, after the Clarets’ prolonged wait for international clearance ended yesterday.

And the 26-year-old revealed the club’s push for a promotion was a big factor in his decision to make Turf Moor his new home.

“Everybody wants to be back in the Premier League as fast as possible and that’s my ambition as well,” said Vossen, who signed in time to join the club on their pre-season training camp in Evian-les-Bains, but missed last Friday’s opening friendly.

“We’ll have to work very hard and that’s what we’re doing at the moment.

“It was really important for me to get involved with the group as fast as possible so it was a good thing that I could join them in France. I’m just doing the preparation in pre-season now and I can’t wait to get the games started. I’m really looking forward to it.

“We’ll have to keep up the good work and try to do the best that we can.

“We have the aim to get back (to the Premier League) as fast as possible and now it’s up to us to show that on the pitch.

“It’s an extra motivation for everybody. That’s the ambition.”

Vossen spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough.

Aitor Karanka’s side looked on course for promotion for much of the campaign but lost out to Norwich in the play-off final.

But Vossen is eager to use that experiences to his, and Burnley’s, advantage as the Clarets look to avoid a relegation hangover.

“You have to make every disappointment become extra motivation. That’s something we all have in common so we’ll use that this season,” said the Belgium international.

“I’ve got a year of experience from the Championship so that’s a good thing for me as well because I know the league. It’s a crazy and unpredictable league but we know what we have to do and everybody is getting ready to achieve the same ambition now.

“It’s quite a physical league and there are no easy games. Every game is a real battle for 90 minutes.

“It’s always a good experience to get to know another league.

“I’ve had that experience to play in the Championship now for one year so I know what it takes to play in this league. That’s a good thing for me and the team.”
