BURNLEY are today set to announce Belgian striker Jelle Vossen as their second summer signing, but talk of Derby County agreeing a fee for Jason Shackell is thought to be premature.

The Clarets have, however, reached an agreement with Genk for their 26-year-old target, with the pricetag thought to be 3.5million Euros - approximately £2.5million based on yesterday’s exchange rate of 1.4 pounds to the Euro.

And Vossen, who spent last season on loan with Middlesbrough, is expected to meet up with his new team-mates for the start of their pre-season training camp in Evian-les-Bains, France, today.

The Belgium international travelled to England for talks last week before returning for Genk’s pre-season preparations after Burnley failed to meet the asking price.

It is understood they first tested the water with an offer in the region of £1.5m.

The 5ft 9ins forward met up with the Belgian Pro-League side on Friday for a squad bonding day.

But, despite taking part in the swamp-wading exercise, it is likely he said his goodbyes at such an advanced stage of negotiations with Burnley ahead of their 2015/16 Championship campaign.

Captain Shackell is still likely to be among them, despite ongoing negotiations about his future.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche is only interested in boosting his side with incomings, but Derby County remain keen on a reunion with their former skipper.

But suggestions that the clubs have settled on a fee for the 31-year-old centre half were, as of last night, jumping the gun.

Shackell Last month, following the departure of Danny Ings to Liverpool and with Kieran Trippier then in the process of joining Tottenham Hotspur, Dyche stated he did not want any more departures “We’re in a different position than we were two and a half years ago, and there’ll be no point teams bidding for our players - it will be us that decides who goes out,” he said.

“It won’t be a case of clubs bidding and they just go. We’re too powerful now in the market.

“The only thing that will change is if I decide that changes.”

He added: “We’ve got players who are all under contract. I don’t think there’s a player at this club who is under threat under contract.

“We believe in contracts, we stay strong to our word about our players. It will be my decision if any of that changes.”

But despite Dyche’s words of warning Derby’s new head coach Paul Clement seems determined to keep testing Dyche and Burnley’s resolve.
