GOALKEEPER Tom Heaton has handed Burnley a pre-season boost by signing three-year deal, while the Clarets could add to their attacking options with former Middlesbrough loanee Jelle Vossen.

Heaton has ended transfer speculation by committing his immediate future to the club because he feels at "home".

The 29-year-old was targeted after his debut Premier League season resulted in 10 top flight clean sheets and ended with his first England call-up.

Aston Villa, Everton and Southampton were all said to be tracking Burnley's number one following relegation back to the Championship.

Heaton has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League.

But first team football is a priority. And the former Manchester United stopper, who has family connections to Burnley, has put an end to any fears that he may leave Turf Moor by putting pen to paper on a new deal that will run until the summer of 2018 - his second contract extension in 12 months.

Burnley, who return for pre-season training today, have so far added right back Matt Lowton to the squad, from Aston Villa, following Kieran Trippier's departure to Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker search is well under way.

Burnley are understood to have held talks with Belgium striker Vossen as a replacement for Danny Ings' whose move to Liverpool becomes official today.

Vossen, 26, has been offered a new deal by parent club Genk but is said to be keen to return to England after a season-long loan in the Championship with Boro.

But one bit of business the club will be pleased to finalise is Heaton's future.

And two years after arriving on a free transfer from Bristol City, the Clarets' keeper was equally delighted.

“I’m very pleased as I’ve had two great years here so far and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed playing for this club," said the players' player of the year.

“It’s another three-year deal and this has felt like my home which has helped with my performances so I don’t want to stop raising that bar and pushing myself to improve."

Heaton, who became the first Burnley player to be called up for England since Martin Dobson in 1974, added: “I feel like I’m getting better all the time and that is vital for me and I want to keep doing that."

Despite losing key men like Trippier and Ings, he is optimistic for Burnley's chances of another promotion push this season.

“We were disappointed about being relegated but the way we went forward with that means we can take the momentum into this season and push for an immediate return to the Premier League," he said.

“I certainly look back over the last two years and the important thing for me is that I feel there is more to come.

“I had a taste of the Premier League last year and the gives you the hunger to get back and I want to be doing that with Burnley Football Club.

“It’s vital that I’ll be playing football week in, week out as I had a few times in my early days where I spent time on loan.

“It was a great foundation at Manchester United but it got frustrating and I made the decision early on in my career to always be trying to play.

“That is what I’ve done over time and it’s important that I stay here and keep moving things forward.”

Heaton added that manager Sean Dyche and goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer were factors in his decision.

“I really love playing for the manager and working with the staff, particularly the goalkeeping coach Billy Mercer who I feel I’ve improved under and I’m really excited for the times ahead," he said.
