THERE was some good news from Turf Moor this week to temper the bad, after Danny Ings was first to go, and then Kieran Trippier completed his move to Spurs.

Matt Lowton arrived on a three-year deal from Aston Villa, and it was great to see manager Sean Dyche reacting so quickly to fill the void at right back.

He has a good pedigree, and Premier League experience, and I am eager to see him in the claret and blue of Burnley.

Hopefully he is the first of many incomings, after the manager put his foot down about speculation surrounding his current squad.

He said that after the double departure that other clubs need not bid for any other of his players, and that's what the supporters want to hear.

He said it will him who decides who goes out, and that is a strong manager.

I sincerely hope he sticks to his comments and does not let Derby get Jason Shackell back on their books. The skipper is the kingpin of our defence and with Michael Duff offered a contract extension we have perhaps the best defence in the Championship.

There's no doubt we will miss Trippier though, for he was a very popular person and player during his time at Turf Moor, and I feel he will get even better with time definitely on his side.

I know he loved it at Burnley, and when he and Danny left the pitch after the lap of appreciation for the supporters at the end of the season, I got the feeling then that he was waving goodbye to the fans.

I wish them both luck, and thank them for their loyalty to the club over the last four years.

Now we must focus on recruitment, and we have made a good start with Lowton.

We must look to midfield, because it may be November-time before we see Dean Marney back in action after his return from the jinx injury (cruciate knee ligament).

He was sorely missed in the middle of the park. It is an area that definitely needs strengthening and now we have the money to do it.

The fans have been magnificent throughout the last two seasons - like a 12th man - and deserve to be rewarded with a bit of a spending spree on the squad.

There's room for improvement in the squad, but if we can do it I feel we can bounce back to the Premier League at the first chance.

But the main reason for our relegation was our lack of goals.

Okay, Sam Vokes was injured for a long spell and Danny missed a few games through injury too, but we failed to convert a large percentage of the chances we created. Points dropped from winning positions would have spared us the drop. But it happened, and now we have to regroup and use the experience of our season in the Premier League to go forward with confidence, with the chequebook out.
