THE headlines said it all, ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ – we missed a penalty and Leicester went and scored.

The story about our lack of goals isn’t changing from week-to-week though.

Having said that, Matt Taylor shouldn’t beat himself up after his miss from 12 yards.

It was a chance to win the game, and I thought it would, but at least he put himself forward and wanted to take the penalty. I wouldn’t blame anyone in that situation.

He did nearly everything right, but that slip might have caused him to drag it just wide.

I was in Benidorm watching it all unfold, sitting in a bar with around 60 Clarets fans and a dozen Leicester fans watching it on a television.

At full-time all the Clarets fans shook hands with their rival fans, and I was very proud of them taking the defeat gracefully.

But this is no time for the players on the pitch to be nice.

If we are to go down – and that is looking an increasingly likely outcome – we must do it fighting and try to get a bit of honour in the performances from now to the end of the season and see where it takes us.

I hope that it isn’t back to the Championship.

I fear that might be the case now though, with a widened gap and only four games left.

I know the players will be giving everything on the pitch but only a miracle can keep us up now.

Still, they do happen, and it would be lovely to think we could be facing Bournemouth in the Premier League next season.

What a story it has been for the Dorset club – and there are local connections with Bacup lad and former Burnley trainee Marc Pugh scoring the first goal in their 3-0 win over Bolton which all but fired them to promotion, and of course former Burnley boss Eddie Howe.

I hope he’ll be coming back to Turf Moor to play next season.

It would be nice if that was the case.

But to give ourselves a chance we have got to end this latest barren run in front of goal.

We relied on Danny Ings and Sam Vokes last season.

Sam is still searching for his first Premier League goal after injury, while Danny is in a drought.

But we are not making enough chances. Particularly in the middle of the park we are not creative enough.

It highlights how much we have missed Dean Marney.

A playmaker is perhaps what we have to make a priority in the summer, no matter which division we are playing our football in next season.

But it isn’t just down to one player that we are in this predicament.

We need to all pull together, and do whatever we can to get out of it.
