LEICESTER City boss Nigel Pearson admitted his side did not deserve to win at Burnley on Saturday.

Leicester bagged a fourth straight victory to move out of the relegation zone and will set a new Premier League record if they survive, having been bottom of the table for 139 days this season – 19 longer than the previous highest for a surviving club, West Bromwich Albion.

But Pearson felt his team were not at their best and probably did not deserve to win.

“It wasn’t a great game,” he said.

“It was two sides who are in a situation where you want to win the game but there’s also that fear of losing. I can’t honestly say our performance was such that you would expect to win the game.

“But we defended with real spirit and the result’s more important than the performance.

“At this stage of the season it’s just about getting the right results.”

Jamie Vardy tapped in the winner from less than a yard 59 seconds.

“He’s got to be there,” Pearson said.

“To win four on the trot is clearly a very good achievement but I’m also aware of the fact that people may start feeling that the emphasis of pressure has changed.

“As far as I’m concerned that’s a bit of a nonsense because with five games to go it’s important we keep our fate in our own hands. That’s going to be the key.

“If it goes to the last game of the season and it’s in our own hands I’ll be satisfied.

“But there’s no time for our players to start thinking the job’s done.

“It’s not that at all.”
